Running laces: essential items for your running sessions!

Passionate about trail running, running or jogging? Choosing the right shoe is essential for your comfort and safety. In order to avoid possible pedestrian damage and irreversible injuries, it is indeed important to choose your running shoe scrupulously. To guide you in your choice, pay particular attention to the laces.

What types of laces should I choose for running? Why and when should you change your running laces? How to properly lace your running shoes? What colors are suitable for running laces? How to properly wear laces and running shoes? The answers in this pane.

What types of laces for running?

Along with the sole, the laces are the main components of a shoe. Their functions? They maximize the fit of your running shoes. They also provide the necessary support for the feet. Although you have the choice between several types of laces, not all are created equal.

The cords

This is the most common type of shoelace. Made from braided cotton, the cords allow you to gain in comfort. Their medium-sized diameter offers good support and ease of installation for your running shoes.

The cords are ideal for a lace running. More concretely, we recommend elastic self-locking cord laces.

Flat laces

Flat laces are the basic laces commonly used on running shoes. They are distinguished by their flat surface and their more or less wide width. Their ends are usually plastic or metal.

Elastic laces

Are you a runner with wide feet? Elastic laces are what you need for optimal comfort. Indeed, the elastic keeps your foot tight without putting pressure on your shoes.

Elastic laces have the advantage of adapting the pressure to the shape of your feet. More so, they are particularly suitable for running shoes. Indeed, they close using a tightening system.

Long shoelaces

Measuring approximately 130cm, long laces are ideal for running shoes with 5 to 8 eyelets on each side.

Why and when should you change your running laces?

Changing laces is not a given for many runners. Only you should know that several cases of injury and damage to the feet are due to poorly laced shoes.

When your laces no longer hold your feet properly, consider buying new ones. A lacing that no longer provides support can cause you to trip, fall and injure yourself.

It is also imperative to change your laces when they no longer fit your shoes. Do you notice that your toes tend to slide forward and hit the shoe? It probably means your shoelaces don't fit. Change to save time and comfort.

What techniques to properly lace your running shoes?

To run comfortably and painlessly, choose lacing techniques that are suitable for shoelaces. You have several choices for lacing your running shoes correctly. Here are a few:

Conventional lacing

Note that conventional lacing is present by default on running shoes when purchased. This type of lacing allows you to effectively lace your shoes by opting for a fairly fine tightening over the entire top of the foot.

Tip: opt for a double knot to tighten your laces sufficiently and prevent them from coming loose while running.

Loop lacing

Widely used in running, loop lacing is a technique that secures the heel to the bottom of the shoes. This is by far ideal for allowing your feet to roll naturally over the sole. During the race, this lacing technique is suitable for all types of terrain.

Crossover lacing

We recommend this lacing technique if you have wide feet. The crossover lacing significantly reduces the feeling of pressure in the middle of the shoe. It supports the toes and the instep at the same time, and this, in an optimal way.

Diagonal lacing

If you have fragile toes, try diagonal lacing. It supports the heel of the foot, in addition to relieving pressure on the toes.

What colors are suitable for running laces?

The laces for running come in different colors. For running shoes, however, we advise you to choose fluorescent laces. If you are used to running in the evening, you will not go unnoticed.

You are free to choose the color of your shoelace. Depending on the color of your shoes, you can choose any color you like. For black running shoes, for example, opt for laces of the same color. If you prefer shoes with more pronounced colors such as neon, pink or purple, choose laces of the same color.

How to properly wear laces and running shoes?

If you want advice, the best thing is to match the color of your shoelace with that of your running shoes. For a woman, prefer above all a close-fitting running outfit.
